A safe place where children can live and grow.

The Kilimanjaro Orphanage Centre in Pasua was founded in early 2009 by Edward "Teacher" Lazaro responding to the recognized need to provide care and shelter to an increasing population of orphaned children in the Kilimanjaro region. We care for over 70 children.

As a registered Non-Governmental Organisation (Charter # 3959), our mission is to provide shelter, nutrition, safety, healthcare, and a long-term education to orphaned children at risk. It is our hope to provide an environment which offers an opportunity to excel and rise above the tremendous obstacles life has put before them.

Edward's Story

Unicef estimates there are over 3.1 million children living without parents in Tanzania. 1.2 million are orphaned due to AIDS/HIV. This leaves more than 40% of the population under the age of 24.For many of these children, an orphanage is the only place they have to find food, shelter, and medical attention.

The AIDS/HIV epidemic in Tanzania has devastated an entire generation, leaving many children in desperate circumstances.  To address this social need, our eventual plan is to care for 140 children by utilizing a combination of our present facilities in Pasua and a proposed new orphanage on recently donated farm land. The ultimate goal is to become self-sufficient as possible by maintaining a fully operational farm and developing a support network to help our children get the best education possible.

Exiting Springlands Hotel turn right and walk 100 yards to a large dirt field area used for soccer practice where we have a sign that points you to the right. Angle left across this field to the compounds that line that side of the field until you come to the only small building painted blue (It is a little store). Turn left here and after about 50 yards continue straight at a Y. In about 100 yards you run directly into the orphanage at a T juncture.
